As part of the R&D team, you will assist in ensuring product compliance and supporting technical documentation efforts in collaboration with QA, Sales, and Operations. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, curious, and eager to grow in the food industry by learning the ins and outs of labeling, documentation, and compliance from the ground up.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. R&D Sales Request Coordination:

• Maintain and track the R&D sales request sheet, ensuring complete and timely submissions.
• Collaborate with the sales team and internal stakeholders to gather all necessary inputs for request execution.
• Assist in coordinating last-minute requests and understanding internal prioritization timelines.

2. Regulatory Documentation Support:

• Help compile product documentation such as ingredient statements, allergen declarations, and Nutrition Facts Panels (NFPs) under supervision.
• Assist in gathering vendor documentation to support regulatory claims like non-GMO, gluten-free, or vegan.
• Draft initial versions of regulatory letters (e.g., flavor declarations) for manager review.

3. Certification Support:

• Assist with document collection and organization for product certifications (e.g., Kosher, Organic, Non-GMO).
• Track submissions and follow up with suppliers on required documentation to ensure product certification timelines are met.

4. Artwork Review Support:

• Conduct preliminary reviews of packaging artwork to flag potential compliance issues (e.g., nutrition values, claims).
• Collaborate with the R&D Manager to complete final reviews.
• Maintain internal records of packaging versions and track approvals and revisions.

5. Product Specifications & QA Collaboration:

• Support QA in building product specifications and technical data sheets.
• Enter data into customer portals or internal templates as needed.
• Assist in verifying and cross-referencing data accuracy between R&D, QA, and sales inputs.

6. Documentation System Organization:

• Help rebuild and maintain a centralized regulatory document library.
• Ensure files are named, categorized, and accessible for internal and customer use.

7. Sensory and Product Input:

• Participate in product testing and tasting sessions (e.g., popcorn, tortilla chips, and pellets) and help record observations.
• Contribute feedback on ingredient preferences and customer appeal.

8. Internal Communication and Language Proficiency:

• Must be fluent in English (written and verbal) for internal communication and customer-facing materials.
• Spanish proficiency is a plus for supporting internal meetings or working with vendors but is not required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in food science, Nutrition, or a related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in a food industry setting (internships, lab tech, QA, or regulatory support roles).
• Familiarity with food labeling and regulatory concepts is a plus.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Interest in learning and growing in regulatory, labeling, or technical product development.
