Summer houses
are a place to relocate during the warmer months to escape home life and get back to nature. Traditionally they are a simple cottage painted in red with a white trim – the distinctive red achieved by using rust as a coloring agent. They are places of rest and relaxation that can be found all over Sweden – near lakes, in forests and on islands. They are a place to enjoy the outdoors, whether swimming, canoeing and fishing by the water or hiking, picking berries and mushrooms in the forests.

These are from a stay at our friend Sofia’s cottage in Mariannelund. We spent the days exploring the outdoors and the evenings grilling our dinner over a fire by the lake.
