I often joke with my parents that I’ll come home to Australia and move into their garden shed, because real estate is so expensive. This clever home in Melbourne is not so far from that concept. The apartment belongs to Alex Kennedy, who with the help of architects Hearth Studio turned the double garage beneath her childhood home into this beautiful space. With a tight budget and tiny area, the results are astounding. Influences from her travel in Japan can be seen, such as the connection with the garden and exposed timber. Maybe I should set my sights on the garage instead?
