The ancient ruins of Monte Alban are located on a mountain top just outside of Oaxaca in Mexico. After an adventurous bus ride we arrived in the hot midday sun to explore the archaeological site that overlooks the city. The site was built by the Zapotecs around 500BC and consists of sprawling plazas, playing fields and astronomically aligned pyramids. There’s still so much unknown about the site, which is what makes it such a magical oasis.
